Stipends for Service

Teaching Assistantships (TA)

For graduate students in good standing, some teaching assistantships are usually available in each of the three terms. The stipend requires half-time service (20 hours a week in teaching, including preparation, office hours, and grading).

Teaching Fellowships (TF)

For graduate students of ability and promise who have earned the MA, these fellowships are usually available in each term. The stipend requires half-time service (20 hours a week in teaching, including preparation, office hours, and grading).

Graduate Student Assistantships (GSA)

A few graduate student assistantships are available in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. For a stipend, a GSA usually assists a faculty member in library research, editorial duties, or similar academic tasks for about 20 hours per week.

Graduate Student Researchers (GSR)

Graduate student researchers work under the direct supervision of and are appointed by the principal investigator (or associate) of a funded research project. Their stipends are determined by the terms of the grant within guidelines set by the associate dean for graduate studies and research.
